Parting is such sweet sorrow- Thanks Shake

I don't want to really write this next sentence but I know I must;

'I'm going to live back on the land in a adobe,a bungalow, actually'

I'll be getting the keys next week.My plan is not to do anything very hasty,I haven't even told the boat yet,
I think she will feel all lonely when I've gone,I plan to buy some cut flowers and have a good tidy up before
having a good talk with 'The Angus' she's a lady really about 70 I think but full of wisdom, compassion and goodwill.Well least ways that's the vibe I pick up.She's been a good friend to me and has put a good solid warm roof over my head these last two and half years.

So the parting is bitter sweet as I'm going to keep 'The Angus' on her mooring and visit a lot in fact I might stay onboard instead.I love the skies, the wind, the trees, the grass, the reeds, the water, the light, the rain,my duck friends,My Moorhen family, the peace and the quiet, solitude, my BBQ!

I have so much to be grateful for and I've found the smaller the thing sometimes it holds the most value in life

Still my son Angus is excited, there will be more space for wrestling games! The lounge is going to be full of yoga matts and a massive home cinema, where I'll love watching 'Seven years in Tibet' and Angus 'Pacific rim' a new frying and coffee brewer beckons an outdoor gym/yoga/bike workshop and some where to edit all my old film footage.

It just seems like I'm leaving someone behind who needs me I don't like being away from the boat for a night
I guess I should just tuff up.

Thanks boat love you lots x

Canary Islands from £19.99I

I've never been to the Canary Isles but I'm hazarding a guess that it will be sunnier than here?

And only £19.99 to go ! It's so very tempting to do so, as I write this,I'm left scrabbling for reasons why I shouldn't go.I have this conundrum every Dec/Jan/Feb maybe it's the yearning for vitamin D ?
I find the Winter upsets my circadian rhythm, well I think it might.I normally get up when it gets light, so in Summer may be 4.30am in winter 8am.

If I could hibernate I certainly would.I'm tempted to believe that our Neanderthal ancestors did so,it's a romantic notion. The term 'second sleep' though is a historical fact you can read more about it here

The myth of the eight-hour sleep

I've been practising it by accident.Going to bed at 8pm waking at 1am reading Tolstoy or Dickens  till 3am
then waking again at 7.30'ish.The two hours is a time to re-set the fire have a mint tea and drowse off to
the philosophical meandering metaphors of Tolstoy.Or Dickens 'A Christmas carol'.

I secretly like the Stygian gloom. If and when you get a gap in the clouds you get the therapeutic effect of sunlight, which can give fantastic sunsets and sunrises.I know from previous trips to sunny climes, that the effect of sunlight is a fantastic tonic.Although I have found that when you return to your normal latitude your
morose glumness comes back with a vengeance.

Sunshine is power

My supply of electricity comes from 12 V batteries, via solar panels courtesy of sunlight. When I moved on the boat my primary consideration was power! I decided to use USB devices and all 12 V devices, even the fridge. It's served me well, although a week with overcast skies does require the engine to be run for 90 mins or so.

I did have a thought about using beeswax candles for illumination, real books no kindle and having tech from Victorian times my ten year old son might find it an inconvenience not being able to watch netflix!
